Reading and Swimming

Emily has been really starting to read more fluently. I am so excited about this! I hope that they are all avid readers when they grow up. This is the reading plan I have decided to go with:

3 year old - can sing the ABCs
4 year old - can identify each letter, knows the short vowel sound and all consonant sounds
5 year old - began The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading

When I began teaching her the lessons from this book, she did not catch on right away. I thought I was doing something wrong. But, we kept at it....little bits at a time...and one day, it just clicked. I review some of the lessons to make sure she has them rather than plowing hard to the next lesson. Now, she is starting to read beginning books/easy readers....Bob Books are a great place to start. She is my right hand woman...very careful about her baby brother!

One thing I love about small children is their delight in simple things. Since we have been able to swim more this year, the kids have been fascinated seeing other children with goggles. So, the other night, we all went to Walmart for the main purpose of getting some goggles for when Grammie visits.

My Babies

Here are my four sweeties when they were roughly the same age (6-9 month range) as babies:

Emily: my little pumpkin (born in the fall)

Elizabeth: my little snowflake (born in the winter)

Luke: my little sun ray (born in the summer)

And Caleb: my little tax exemption (born December 31, one hour before the New Year!)
